The annual fee for your course includes a number of items in addition to your tuition. If an item or activity is classed as a compulsory element for your course, it will normally be included in your tuition fee. There are also other costs which you may need to consider.

Examples of what's included and excluded

Students studying BDS Dental Surgery on the University of Sheffield International College (USIC) route are also required to pay an additional clinical placement fee which is incorporated into the tuition fee for years two to five. As an example, the fee for students from the USIC route starting in 2024-25 is £46,190 for year one and £87,040 per year for years two to five. This figure is reviewed on an annual basis for new cohorts.

Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy students are required to provide minimal costs for travel to deliver oral health promotion/education activities when appropriate and upfront costs for travel to placements. For eligible students, the NHS Business Services Authority will reimburse excess travel costs incurred when undertaking outreach placement training.

For all our courses you will be required to pay printing costs.

As part of your tuition fee for the BDS and Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy you'll receive a DBS check, Occupational Health Clearance, a white coat (BDS only) and clinical attire. You will be responsible for laundering your clinical attire, for registering with the DBS Update Service (optional) and clinical operating magnification loupes (optional).

On the BDS, you'll receive a contribution to travel for placements in your fourth year and will need to fund upfront costs for travel to placements in your fifth year. For eligible students, the NHS Business Services Authority will reimburse excess travel costs incurred in year five when undertaking outreach placement training.

BDS students are required to pay for elective costs (students choose and fund their elective placement).

For BSc Bio-dental Science and Technology you'll receive help with project costs to a specified limit and a white coat.
